Name: Ogbonnia Okoronkwo
Size: 6’1”, 240 lb
Home State: Texas
The premier pass rusher on one of college football’s best teams in 2017, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is one of those players that affects the pocket play after play, finding ways to continually close in on quarterbacks and bring pressure. Okoronkwo plays with a quickness and agility that frustrates slower offensive linemen, and he is a master at using his hands to fight off blockers. In the run game, Okoronkwo holds his ground well.
Though he is a highly productive edge player, Okoronkwo appears to lack the killer, “go-to” pass rush move that many players at his position have for do-or-die situations. In fact, Okoronkwo’s move repertoire is not all that great. The times he does manage to actually get by offensive linemen, the Sooner standout is a gambler, attempting strip sacks or big hits instead of racking up routine (but effective) sacks. Okoronkwo also has trouble in the run game getting redirected from his gap and turned around from the running lane when he has a certain assignment.
Teams looking for a pass rusher will definitely consider Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, whose resume speaks for itself. That said, he flashes some signs on tape that he may not be as effective at the next level. Okoronkwo will have to work hard developing a more extensive set of pass rushing moves if he is going to make a real impact in the pros.
