A little tidbit today from the ESPN Chicago page talks about how Kellen Winslow is on the trading block.
The source goes on to say how it’s likely that the Buccaneers trade Winslow and move on to former Indianapolis Colt Dallas Clark.
Winslow has been a solid player for a number of years in Tampa Bay, amassing 2,377 yards and 12 touchdowns on 218 receptions over a three year span as a Buccaneer.
This big target has helped with Josh Freeman’s development into a solid quarterback and should be a hot commodity over the next few days.
Some destinations that make sense for the veteran tight end:
Chicago Bears
The Bears haven’t gotten much from the tight end position since the team lost Greg Olsen to the Carolina Panthers. Winslow would be a solid piece to team with Brandon Marshall and he’d certainly help open up the Chicago passing attack. Jay Cutler could use another target and Winslow looks like a solid option here.
Oakland Raiders
Another solid fit here. The Raiders lost Kevin Boss this offseason and would be well-suited to bring in Winslow as a main option in their offense. Quarterback Carson Palmer can sling the ball deep, but he’d be able to run a more efficient attack with a checkdown to Winslow here and there.
New York Giants
The Giants were a hot landing spot for Stanford tight end Coby Fleener in a number of mock drafts, but the team elected to fill its need at running back instead. Now, with Winslow on the market, New York can make a push for the former Buccaneer and give Eli Manning a true target at tight end with Jake Ballard currently injured.
