Raiders Sign DB Charles Woodson; What It Means For Him And Oakland
The Oakland Raiders have signed former Packers cornerback Charles Woodson, according to Adam Schefter.
Woodson will provide a veteran presence on a team that has no established leader. He is coming off a down year, but the Raiders have a lot less crowded secondary than Green Bay does.
Woodson, who finished with just 1 pick, looks to find his career again in Oakland, a city in which he has flourished in before. Although he had his glory days in Green Bay, Woodson’s roots remain in the Bay Area, and this could motivate him.
Fortunately for Charles Woodson, the Raiders don’t expect him to do much, as they signed him to a 1 year flier deal. At 36 years old, Woodson’s best days are certainly behind him. However, he could possibly have a last hurrah left in the tank.
He has been one of the best secondary talents in the league consistently, and posted league highs in interceptions as late as 2011 and 2009. Clearly, the guy has talent.
It will most likely be the final season of a future Hall of Fame cornerback, but that certainly is not to say that he can’t turn his career around.
Cardinals WR Michael Floyd Making Strides
Arizona Cardinals receiver Michael Floyd has been making a big leap this offseason, according to azcardinals.com. Floyd, the highly touted pass catcher out of Notre Dame, was nothing more than decent for the entirety of last season.
However, change are afoot in Glendale, as the Cardinals brought in a new coach in Bruce Arians and will have an open quarterback competition between Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton and Ryan Lindley.
The likely winner, luckily for Floyd, will be Palmer due to his experience in the NFL. However, Michael Floyd won’t be the only receiver on the team looking for redemption. Larry Fitzgerald, the team leader for years, had an off year as he only brought in 4 touchdown passes.
Things are looking up for both of the pass catchers, though. An inconsistent quarterback trio formed by Kevin Kolb, John Skelton and Ryan Lindley is all but gone, as Lindley will most likely be cut.
Floyd will certainly look to get more time on the field, and maybe even haul in more than a couple touchdown catches this upcoming season.
